About us

Tankular, is a small fishing and farming village where the river flows in the streets when the tide is in. It is located in Kiang West in the Lower River Division of the Gambia. Takular got about 1000 residents at the moment. It is peaceful and tranquil village where you can always connect yourself to nature because of its location (it’s situated between the river and the hills). Tankular is a very old village which has being in its current location for many centuries. From the oral history the village was found by a brave hunter called Tankur hence the name Tankular. Tankur used to go for hunting by the river side and he found the place attractive and fascinating and he eventually relocated there with his family. The Portuguese have come into contact with this lovely village during the Portuguese exploration to West Africa in the 16th century. They settle there and built a church there, the church bell is marked as 1711.
